Our season finale joins Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony musicians in a performance of Beethoven’s beloved "Pastoral" Symphony. Here,  Beethoven's love of nature overflows in impressions of the beautiful countryside-- a babbling brook, then bird calls, a summer storm, and the shepherds' song of thanksgiving.  In a program sure to ignite and stimulate the senses, world-renowned German baritone Matthias Goerne joins the orchestra for his debut with Mahler’s Seven Songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. With these songs of love and war, Mahler draws from a treasure trove of folk melodies based on a collection of German poems traversing love, nature, humor and even fairytales.  You won't want to miss this tour de force season finale performance of what is celebrated around the world as one of the finest artistic partnerships today, Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
