Pastels can give your drawings bright, brilliant colors with a spontaneous and easy flowing feel. Using pastels, you can make quick, yet detailed, paintings of the moment. Explore techniques that will help you make the most of this flexible medium.

Supply List

• Dry Pastels (not oil pastels): hard (like NuPastel) and soft (Sennelier, Schmincke, etc.). Sets are OK but usually need to be supplemented with open stock.
• Pastel Paper smooth surface such as Canson Mi-tients or Strathmore, a small tablet of various colors for quick studies.
• Pastel Paper textured such as sanded pastel paper or LaCarte, Colourfix. One sheet will suffice as it is very expensive. This will be used for the last study.
• Bristle brush ½ to 1 inch flat or big round, to manipulate pastel dry and wet
• Tape masking tape, I use black artist's tape.
• Charcoal (optional)
• Fixative preferably pump spray like Sennelier Latour; aerosol sprays will not be used inside but can be demonstrated out of doors.
